Overview
Placeholder text. A speculative office building where the owner wanted exposed timber throughout for its warmth and lower embodied carbon.
The challenge
Timber floors are light, which makes footfall vibration and acoustic separation the governing design issues, not strength.
Approach
- Optimized a 9 m × 6 m grid to balance panel spans against beam depth
- Ran vibration analysis to set CLT thickness and topping
- Coordinated concealed steel connections with the fire engineer to meet the required rating
Outcome
The structure came in at roughly 40% lower embodied carbon than the concrete baseline scheme.
