Overview
Placeholder text. Replace with your own project story. A single-span pedestrian bridge replacing a closed crossing, sized for crowd loading and maintenance vehicles.
The challenge
A tight in-water work window meant the superstructure had to be fabricated off site and lifted in one pick. Lively footbridges also have a habit of bouncing, so the design had to keep vertical frequency above the walking-pace range.
Approach
- Modeled the truss in SAP2000 and checked modal response against footbridge comfort criteria
- Chose weathering steel to eliminate repainting over the bridge’s life
- Detailed bolted splices so the span could ship in three pieces and assemble on site
Outcome
Erected in a single overnight closure. Measured first vertical mode was within 5% of the design prediction.
